April 2000
That
Second Baptist Church create a Missouri Baptist Convention Task Force with five
to seven members to be appointed by the pastor and affirmed by the church not
later than the July business meeting. The
pastor will serve as an ex-officio
member of this “temporary committee.”
The
Task Force will have the following functions:
study
and educate us about the importance of our historic and current ties to the
Missouri Baptist Convention;
become
informed and educate the congregation about the current takeover plans of
our convention by fundamentalists known as Project 1000;
inform
the congregation about what is being done to counter-act this takeover,
particularly through the efforts of Mainstream Missouri Baptists;
prepare
our elected Missouri Baptist Convention messengers to be informed of related
convention issues;
provide
a report to the congregation following the convention; and
when necessary, recommend actions to the church which are consistent with our church’s understanding and expression of historic Baptist values relating to the Missouri Baptist Convention and the Southern Baptist Convention.
